A metric is not the entire decision
Cost, energy, reliability, maintainability and accessibility can conflict. State the system boundary and service conditions before comparing alternatives. A lower purchase price may hide maintenance or disposal costs.

Review risk rather than hiding it
Identify hazards, affected people, failure consequences and uncertainty. Prefer safer designs and qualified review over unsupported numerical safety claims. Standards and legal obligations must be checked for the real jurisdiction and application.
